Api oil specification chart

Abstract: A number of oil specifications have been developed to ensure that lubricants provide all of the lubricating oil functions required in modern engines. In the USA, the API oil classification system provides a simple designation for engine oils to ensure that the proper type of oil is selected for an engine. The API Casing Specification Chart provides specific data that is essential before any operation begins. It includes different casing sizes and capacities that would define a casing’s limitations. Casings are also known as Encasement pipe, which comprises steel tubes that are utilized for gas and oil underground operations. latest American Petroleum Institute (API) and International Lubricant Standardization require compliance to an internal oil specification for warranty purposes. Refer to the chart at the bottom of the page for their meanings and importance. And like our API approach we recommend using a BMW oil spec that matches  American Petroleum Institute - API. Maintaining standards whether an oil is suitable for gasoline or diesel engines. Hence an oil that meets both API ACEA specifications uses a better additive package than ACEA 2010 and later specification oils can not meet both C3 A3/ B4.

API CK-4 oils exceed the performance criteria of API CJ-4, CI-4 with CI-4 PLUS, CI-4, and CH-4 and can effectively lubricate engines calling for those API Service Categories. When using CK-4 oil with higher than 15 ppm sulfur fuel, consult the engine manufacturer for service interval recommendations. Oxidation and rust inhibitors, defoamers, and pour depressants may be added to improve the characteristics of these So if you buy an engine oil meeting only API SA, it's an engine oil formulated for use in vehicles built in the 1920s. The API Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System provides a simple designation of letters and numbers that allows engine manufacturers and oil marketers to clearly provide users with the information they need to ensure that the proper oil is selected for an engine. For example, SM or CF. The higher the letter, the more recent the technology of the oil. For recent oil, the higher specification will supersede the lower letter grade. For example, if we have an oil with specification SN, it can also be used for vehicles which request API SM, SL and SJ; it is backward compatible. CF-2 (1994) is the API classification for two-stroke diesels. A new diesel oil category called PC-11 will appear in 2016 or 2017. The new diesel oil category will have two subcategories: PC-11A (which may be renamed CK-4) for current and older diesel engines, and PC-11B for 2017 and newer engines only.
